Mission & History

our mission

TRUE VOLLEYBALL is dedicated to teaching the game of volleyball, promoting and encouraging the proper growth and development of volleyball players.  We believe in the values and experience from participating in team sports such as:  loyalty, discipline, responsibility, sportsmanship, dedication, teamwork, relationship building, communication skills, self-image and success under pressure.

History and Purpose

TRUE VOLLEYBALL is headquartered in Brea, CA, with training locations in Cypress, Fullerton, Porterville and currently working towards Cerritos, Garden Grove, and San Bernardino.  With a history spanning back as far as 1975, we are one of the longest running original clubs of Junior Volleyball in the Country.  In 1975 as two clubs, CAL-JRS VBC operated by one of the NCAA Division-I most successful Coaches, Brian Gimmillaro of Long Beach State and Asics Tiger VBC ran by Mollie Kavanaugh THE MOST successful junior club volleyball coach in history.  Director and club owner Micah Burpo took over Team-Specifit VBC from national championship volleyball coach Bob Crowell in 2007 and changed the name to SOCAL ELITE VOLLEYBALL.  TRUE VOLLEYBALL was rebranded in 2024 in recognition and frustration of the common goals required to have a national level program in California.  All programs are under the TRUE ATHLETICS  umbrella owned and operated by Micah Burpo.

We provide different opportunities that vary in time, financial responsibility and travel expectations for athletes ages 8-18.  We are committed to developing the individual and team through the pursuit of excellence in volleyball, fostering a sense of community and relationship building throughout the volleyball environment.

TRUE VOLLEYBALL provides a continually trained staff with an UNMATCHED history that guides athletes in developing volleyball skills, system knowledge and team dynamics. We help our athletes in reaching their goal of playing at the collegiate and professional levels. We recognize that all the coaches, athletes, parents, and participants benefit from being committed to a progressive club that has a continuity of purpose and pursues competitive greatness.
